Star Harmonies was created in March 2012 by Allison Barr and her two children Aimie and Jak, with the main focus being our adult choir, The Liv’n Harmony Singers, and our Musical Theatre Workshops for kids, Star Harmonies Experience.
It soon became apparent that Star Harmonies was something VERY special, and there were lots of exceptionally talented kids in West Lothian who wanted more than just holiday workshops.
In August 2012, Star Harmoneez Musical Theatre School was born where our stars of today AND the future can come on a Tuesday night and explore their talent. Kids aged 4-18 can learn the 3 aspects of Musical Theatre-Singing, Dance and Acting, and combine them performing at various concerts and events throughout the year as well as our big show around May/June time each year.
The Liv’n Harmony Singers adult choir was a fantastic group with life long bonds formed with chour members. The emphasis was on fun, friendship and singing, with this choir. We felt that The Livin' Harmony Singers had completed its time and closed its doors in September 2018 however our wonderful ladies still come together for a few weeks throughout the year to prepare and take part in our charity concerts for The Team Jak Foundation which we will tell you more about further down this page.
Star Harmonies Ltd SC565029 became a private limited company as of July 2017. It was at this point that Aimie assumed the role of Co-Principal & Director.
Little Starz and Baby Harmoneez are one-off Baby and Toddler sessions for little ones where they will be introduced to singing, dance, movement, rhyme and rhythm and basic drama skills through acting out Nursery Rhymes using a variety of musical instruments, ribbons, puppets and props. Look out for our one-off sessions advertised on Facebook and on our website.
We have an array of other classes available by request - 1:1 Singing with Aimie with the option of Musical Theatre Exams, Musicianship and Theory classes are also available by appointment. Contact Aimie on 07973 663547 for more information.
Unfortunately a few things took a back seat from August 2014- Spring 2015 as sadly, in February 2015, Allison’s son Jak became the brightest star in the sky after losing his short battle with a rare and aggressive form of cancer aged 15. Jak insisted that ‘Star Harmonies MUST continue ‘ and so we are more determined than ever to continue to build our Star Harmonies family in honour of Jak to ensure that our motto that everyone is a star and deserves a chance to shine is at the fore of everything we do once more.
With this in mind we have adopted Team Jak Foundation, SCO45586.
Established by Jak before he died to support children and young people
with cancer and their families, as our chosen Charity for Life.
This means we will support Team Jak practically by performing at events, helping out at collections and fundraisers, continue to raise awareness for the aims of Team Jak and Jak’s Den alongside having many warriors and siblings from Team Jak now attend Star Harmoneez MTS. Our Starz have become a well loved part of the prestigeous Jak's Ball which takes place in February each year to mark Jak's anniversary. They are consistently praised by the guests for their high level of professionalism and outstanding performances - the guests look forward to finding our their performance theme year after year.
Jak's voiceover which he recorded a few days before he died will also be played at every Concert and Show to ensure he remains a firm part of our Star Harmonies family.
